Summary: Monica Reyes thinks back about Brad Follmer and their time in New York.

Brad Follmer was like no other lover she ever had. He was intelligent and held in high
regards with those in power at the FBI. He excelled at the Academy and finished in the
top three of his class, which made him cocky and unlikable to those he thought beneath
him. He was the only Cadet to be personally recruited by the Director. As far as she
knew, that didn't happen to just anyone. And, as it turned out, he would become
everything a perfect superior should be. He was perfect, ran a perfect office and expected
no less than perfection from the agents beneath him.

And she had been beneath him on several occasions after asking him to lock the office
door. He was forbidden and that made him exciting and she could still feel the seduction
in his touch tingle over her skin. They would be dead if they were caught. Not literally,
but their careers would suffer. Hers over his, that was certain. The Director never would
remove someone he personally recruited, but her rightful place in the FBI would be
terminated and her name blackened on any document that read it. But she didn't care
about any of these things. The things she cared about were his lips pressed on hers, his
forbidden touch when he ravished her in his office. She cared for this and little about
anything else.

Monica Reyes sighed at her own foolishness. She had been so young, naïve and oblivious
to what was really going on in the world. At least until that dark and rainy night outside
Carlo's, a tiny hole in the wall Italian restaurant they always ordered take out from. She
recalled the moment distinctly from the moment she opened the back door to the
restaurant, which was a usual occurrence since she knew the cook, who was a fine, dark,
handsome Italian named Ermanno, and had stopped before entering when she saw
Brad's old Impala parked in the shadows, just out of reach of the flickering street lamp.

He wasn't expecting her, which is why, she suspected, the deal even went down in that
damp alleyway. She had wanted to surprise him with his favorite, as repulsive an idea it
was to eat veal, with cotoletta and potatoes. He liked rich food and though it came from a
hole in the wall, it was the most expensive. He was like that, always wanting expensive
things, and despite her opposition, veal was always on the table.

She was burned that night she saw him accept a large wad of cash. Bribe money for
Christ's sakes. What had gotten into him? There was more to life than money, but not to
him. He needed the rich lifestyle, the superiority over others. She had never been so hurt
in all her life, which had never occurred to her was sheltered.

He had betrayed her so she ran away. And now, two years later, his smooth, cocky grin
and his sly wandering eyes were back in her life. He hadn't changed and she knew this
the second he moved to kiss her when the office door had barely even latched closed. His
eyes were playful, but were wild with lust to have her again. Her heart had fluttered, and
damn the old feelings that briefly resurfaced. She had remained in control, and would
remain in control if he ever wanted a second chance with her.
